Örnegin, New York sehrinde yasayanlara veya yerlilerine New Yorker derler, hatta senelerdir bu isimde bir dergi bile vardir. Wikipedia'da demonym konusunda anlamli bir makale var, bos bir vaktinizde okumanizi öneririm.
Ben diyorum ki, pekala bizim Türk sehirleri için de demonym'ler türetebiliriz. Örnegin, istersek Istanbul'da Ankara'da veya Izmir'de yasayanlar için demonym'ler bulabiliriz. Bunun için sehir isminin sonuna uygun bir "suffix" eklemek gerekiyor. Yukaridaki makalede bu suffix örnekleri var. Tabii bunun için biraz dilbilim (linguistics) gerekiyor. Sanirim sadece Istanbul için kullanilan bir demonym var, "Istanbulite" kullaniliyor. Ben de bu vesile ile ögrendim. Ama diger sehirler için yok.
Merak edenler için, demonym sadece Amerikan veya Ingiliz sehirleri için türetilmiyor. Tüm dünya sehirleri için demonym türetilebiliyor. Örnegin, Athens - Athenian, Kiev - Kievan, Paris - Parisian, Pisa - Pisan, Riga - Rigan, Sicily - Sicilian, Sofia - Sofian. Yukaridaki makalede bunlar var. ▲ Collapse
