Source text - Dutch Buiten schijnt de zon en er waait een warme wind uit het oosten. Ik` wenk naar taxi’s, maar ze rijden allemaal door. Eindelijk stop er een. Met een zucht van verlichting laat ik me op de achterbank van de luxe, koele auto vallen. Achter het stuur zit een Indiase man met dik zwart haar. Hij draait zich naar me om. ‘Naar professor Zurina, neem ik aan?’ zegt hij met zijn bekende grijns.
Het bloed trekt uit mijn gezicht en ik dreig het bewustzijn te verliezen.
Het is Maan.
Waar ben ik in godsnaam nu weer?
Translation - English Outside, the sun is shining and a warm breeze is blowing in from the east. I try to hail a tax, but they all drive right past me. Finally one stops. With a sigh of relief, I slide into the back seat of the cool, luxurious car. An Indian man with thick, black hair is sitting behind the wheel. He turns to face me. "To Professor Zurina, I assume?" he says, with his familiar grin.
The blood drains from my face as I threaten to lose consciousness.
It's Moon.

“De Gucci Group. In het leathergoods product development team en ufficio tecnico van Balenciaga om precies te zijn. Ik was door het dolle heen toen ik hoorde dat ik hier aan de slag kon, want voor Gucci werken was altijd al een droom geweest. Bovendien merkte ik al snel dat het in Italië best moeilijk is om als buitenlandse in de modewereld aan de slag te gaan. Ondanks dat ik de taal vloeiend sprak, kozen ze vaak liever voor een echte Italiaan(se). Na een aantal afwijzingen, kreeg ik een uitnodiging van de Gucci Group voor een stage bij Balenciaga. Met mijn Balenciaga-tas in de hand – die ik had gekregen voor mijn afstuderen – ging ik erheen met de gedachte: ‘Nou, het zal wel niet lukken’. Maar je zult altijd zien: juist als je het niet verwacht, gebeurt het onverwachte. Ik had een gesprek met een Amerikaanse die juíst opzoek was naar een buitenlandse stagiaire. Oh, en mijn tas was ook een schot in de roos. Het was voor hun duidelijk dat ik passie voor het merk had. Overigens kreeg ik meteen de boodschap dat ze me na mijn stage niet konden aannemen vanwege de economische crisis.”
Ik voel een ‘maar’ aankomen?
“Haha, ja. Dat gebeurde dus wel. Na een stage van zes maanden die onder andere in het teken stond van productcodes aanmaken, vroegen ze of ik wilde blijven. Ja, dat kon ik echt niet afslaan. Ik kreeg een jaarcontract en kwam daarna in vaste dienst. Wel mooi, want ik herinner me nog goed dat mijn ex-schoonmoeder ooit tegen me zei dat het me nooit zou lukken om bij Gucci binnen te komen. Wellicht heeft dit me toch de drive gegeven om juist daar terecht te komen.”
Translation - English Where did you end up?
"The Gucci Group, in the leather goods and product development team and ufficio tecnico for Balenciaga, to be precise. I was over the moon when I found out I was going to be able to work there, because working for Gucci had always been a dream of mine. I also realised fairly quickly that, as a foreigner, it's pretty difficult to get work in the Italian fashion industry. Despite the fact that I spoke the language fluently, they'd still rather have a real Italian. After a few rejections, the Gucci Group invited me to intern at Balenciaga. With my Balenciaga bag in hand – I'd gotten it as a graduation present – I went off thinking, 'This surely isn't going to work.' But it's always the same, just when you don't expect it, the unexpected happens. I had a meeting with an American who was looking for a foreign intern. And my bag sealed the deal. It was clear to them that I had a passion for the brand. They told me straight away that they wouldn't be able to take me on after my internship because of the economic crisis."
I feel a but in there somewhere.
"Ha-ha, yeah. It happened anyway. After six months of interning, where I was doing things like making product codes, they asked me if I wanted to stay. And, of course, I couldn't refuse an offer like that. They gave me a one-year contract and then took me on permanently after that. It was great, because I'll never forget my ex-mother-in-law telling me that I'd never get a job at Gucci. That probably gave me the drive to do it."
