Here's to another very enjoyable evening! The Edinburgh Translators' Stammtisch was attended by 11 people (8 Prozians and 3 non-Prozians) and after just two meetings, it is well on its way to becoming an institution. Next time, I'll have to remember to bring my camera!<BR>

Also thanks to the Stammtisch, we have managed to acquire some members for our new book group for German native speakers, <a href="http://www.geocities.com/buecherwurm_edinburgh/">B�cherwurm Edinburgh</a>. The networking opportunities seem endless.<BR>

- the dilemma of bidding for a job at low rates to gain experience.<BR>
- what to look out for when starting out (ensuring you get a PO, how to write invoices, etc.).<BR>
- different ways of receiving money (cheque, bank transfer, PayPal, etc.).<BR>
- localization.<BR>
- business cards (particularly where to get cheap or free cards).<BR>
- cheap web design and posting.<BR>
- rates.<BR>
- proof-reading and how to go about it/what's expected.<BR>
-working with proof-readers: What are the translator's and what are the proof-reader's responsibilities when working as part of a team (i.e. if there are typos in the final, whose fault is it, should the proof-reader return the text to the translator for approval before submitting it to the client)?<BR>
- posting term queries on Proz: situations where people refer the asker to the glossary as a kind of "knee jerk" reaction, but where the asker has already checked the glossary and couldn't find what they needed<BR>
- health and beauty translation<BR>
- the ITI visit to the Scottish parliament, which took place on Saturday 18th February and to which the participants of the January Stammtisch had been invited<BR>
- the free International Trade seminar by the Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce scheduled for March 1st<BR>
- living in Scotland as a German<BR>
- the problem of taking holidays when you live abroad and everyone expects you to go home<BR>
- CAT tools: Do we really need them? What are the differences between SDLX and SDL Trados? Why is Trados so expensive compared to Wordfast? Does the range of features offered by Trados justify its high price?<BR>
