Meaning of Kudoz numbers next to answers

I'm new to Kudoz and have read quite a bit of the guidelines. But I still cannot figure out what the numbers signify when you answer a question.

For example, I was the third answer. After posting my answer, the number "4" appeared next to my name as well as next to the second answer's name. No one had received any "+x" in blue yet.

I'm sure it's a simple thing, but I cannot seem to find the answer! Thanks for any help.

When you answer a question you say how confident you are from 1 to 5.
