WorkBench: inserting sub-segment generate smilies

Hello,

When I try to insert a sub-segment using [ALT + 1] in WorkBench to translate index fields, WorkBench generate a smilie instead of a sub-segment.

How can I get Workbench to insert a sub-segment (xe:"") instead of a smilie?
