It seems whenever TagEditor is used, internal tags end up in the TM. Is that normal or is there a way to get rid of them and “clean” the TM? Just wondering…

Est-il normal de laisser les balises dans la MT/TM quand on utilise TagEditor ou peut-on s’en débarasser? Un forum (#71575) aborde la question des balises mais sous l’angle de leur gestion financière. Qu’en pensent les habitués et autres experts ?

Merci, Maurice

Internal tags are part of the translation unit Jun 27, 2004

Hi Maurice,
It seems whenever TagEditor is used, internal tags end up in the TM.

That's "as designed" for internal tags.

Is that normal or is there a way to get rid of them and “clean” the TM?

What's the problem with leaving them in the TM?

Best regards, Ralf

No problem at all (it seems) Jun 28, 2004

Hi Ralf,

No problem at all since WB is giving me 100% matches for the same source text formatted in Word. In other words, the tags are ignored when searching the TM. It seems they are completely useless BUT they are still there !! Wouldn't it be great if Trados would provide the option to get rid of them completely?
Maybe in the next upgrade...

Thanks for your reply, MD

Hi again.
It seems they are completely useless BUT they are still there !!

Of course they are, as you need them when working with tagged file formats.

Best regards, Ralf

Internal tags in Trados TM Jun 28, 2004

Out of interest, are these internal tags retained if the TM is exported to TMX format, and if so, do they comply with the TMX specification?

Exporting internal tags Jun 28, 2004

Hi Marc,

This is what I know so far: they are retained when exporting to a TXT file. I have not tried the .TMX option. The help info has a note about that indicating they are retained. MD

Note:
TMX (Translation Memory Exchange) Level 2 retains internal formatting inside the exported units. For information on TMX, see the TMX web site at http://www.lisa.org.

That's correct. OmegaT's memories, which are by definition in TMX (TMX is the native format), contain formatting tags in the segments, but these tags are no use to other CAT tools.
