I have the same configuration as you are, and it works with no problems (except of the common Trados bugs - certainly this monster is not the best software in the world).

I have tried to install Trados 5 while having Windows XP and Office XP installed - but Trados installer shows only Word 97 and Word 2000 options stating that there is no Word deteceted in my system. Thus it prompted me to install templates into some TT folder; I freaked out and cancel the installation)
Any advise will be helpful...
Thanks,

Thanks,
5 or 5.5? I installed 5.5 without problem, just followed the installer instructions. And you can place manually the Trados template in the word/startup folder.

Copy "TRADOS5.DOT" from Trados Templates (TT), and paste it on C:/Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeTemplates3082 This will make your Trados 5.5 work on your Win XP. I did it and worked great. Tadzio.
