I wish to use Trados to translate an English text into German. My client assures me that the file is not protected in any way whatsoever BUT Trados rejects the file on the grounds that it is protected in some way! Any ideas much appreciated.
regards Michael

The Tools option only shows "Protect document", i.e. Word says the file is presently unprotected but Trados rejects it as protected!

Another possibility is to select all text (being careful to leave out the last paragraph mark), copying it, and pasting it in a blank document. That should bypass all protections, but do make sure you leave out that last paragraph mark.
Kind regards,
P.

You can do it depending upon the protection type either in Explorer or in the application lke Word directly and then process. Check also level of macro security. Greets Brandis

Hi Brandis
Thanks for that - but where can I check the macro security levels?

Hi Michael, Which Word version are you using? What is the precise Workbench error message?
Thanks, Ralf

Sorry for not getting back to you earlier - problem has resolved itself in that I am now working with someone who is translating in the old fashioned way - sans Trados!
rgds Michael
PS The file loaded perfectly into my Deja Vu though!
