Can I use an older version of Trados (2014) AND Studio 2017 on two separate devices?

Hello,

I want to know if I can install Trados STudio 2014 on one device and Trados Studio 2017 on two others? I have a Freelance Plus version. The reason of my question is that I have bought a new laptop but will still use the old one as well. So I need - if possible - Trados on three devices.

Regards
Els

Yes you can, Nov 30, 2018

that is, if you still have 2014 installed on your old laptop. Since you bought 2017, you can't reinstall 2014, that licence has gone.

The "Plus" license allows you to install the same version on two separate computers. As far as I can tell, when you upgrade (i.e. when you pay a reduced upgrade fee for the new version) you're actually exchanging your old version for the new version, which means that you no longer have a license for the old version. If you want to use the old version, you must have a separate license for it. If you already upgraded from a previous version (e.g. 2014) to 2017, then you're going to have to buy a separate 2014 licence at the full price. I'm not sure if Trados sells licenses for their old products, but ask their support -- perhaps they're willing to do that for you even though the web site itself no longer lists it.

I'm not sure if an existing Trados 2014 installation on an old computer will continue to function if you upgraded to Trados 2017 and then installed 2017 on another computer (as Robert says) -- perhaps it would.

As far as I know, Trados doesn't give the opportunity to buy old licences. You can work with two versions side by side (I do, 2014 and 2015), but that means 'don't delete the old version'. As soon as you do that, there is no way back.
