are classified as having (x no. of ) storeys Explanation: I think it's to do with height regulations, e.g. if you have a converted loft, it may not be classified as an extra floor. Storey (British English) or story (American English) . The plurals are storeys and stories, respectively. You can also use floors. http://www.byggebolig.no/byggesoknad-saksbehandling/'ma... |

floors with qualifying living space Explanation: Tellende etasjer is the number of floors that contain usable living spaces, i.e. a floor with a garage would not count as a floor unless more than x parts of it is usable living space, a floor that is partially underground, a mezzanine that does not cover more than 1/5 of the main floor beneath, or a loft that is less than 1/3 of the main floor beneath. In other words, if you build in an area where zoning requires houses to be two floors or less, you could build an underground garage with mother-in-law appartment off the side that was less than 1/3 of the building base, you could have a mezzanine that was less than a 1/3 of the building base, and a floor with less than 1/5 of the building base, in effect getting 4.5 floors out of the building, but it would still qualify as a two story building. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 1 hr (2012-10-24 12:02:30 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- In the case you are talking about the building actually have five floors, but only four of them count as living space as the fifth is a garage level.
