Not entirely sure how to formulate this sentence in English - any suggestions welcome!
Setningsømfintlige bygg bør fundamenteres på peler som rammes til berg.
So far, I have: A pile foundation framed to the rock should be used for buildings that are vulnerable to settling. Not sure how near the mark I am yet....

Piles are driven in situ


Explanation:
Not as sure as the specialist is of his, but I think what the sentence means, is that the piles are driven into position, since a deep foundation can be made in soft soil and bedrock, or be used to restrain soft soil from bedrock, and the structural medium doesn't need to be mentioned, unless there was a specific context.

disagree  Sean Martin (X): Driving of piles would imply 'in situ' since you can't pre-drive them off-site. I still agree with eodd's suggestion. Driving to bedrock is a common method.
