elevator pit / lift pit Explanation: I am not certain about the term, but I get the impression, from searching a bit, that it is the bottom part of an elevator/lift shaft. Another word for grube is grop, so it would make sense that it is the hollow area underneath the lift/elevator - the bottom of the shaft. |

lift shaft / elevator shaft Explanation: grube is just another way of saying gruve. and it refers to the whole shaft/well ( I would not say pit, as that tells me the hole has not been cast with concrete yet), not just the bunnplate or base concrete plate. |
