Icelandic to English translations [PRO]
Law (general) / appears on a divorce certificate
Icelandic term or phrase: Hjónin lýsa yfir eignaleysi sínu.
Hjónin lýsa yfir eignaleysi sínu.

It appears as the only condition for a divorce, but I can't pin down the meaning.

Thanks for any help.

English translation:The spouses declare lack of assets
Explanation:
on page 27 in the link it says that to get a divorce a couple needs to first sign an agreement on the division of assets. If there is complete lack of assets (algert eignarleysi) then they simply need to make a declaration about that before a sýslumaður or a judge. I guess the poor people just don't have anything!!? I think I have translated something like this before. I don't remember how exactly I phrased it but this is what it should mean. Is your document isssued by a sýslumaður?
