Norwegian term or phrase: Stiftelseskapital
This is a heading in the debt and equity section of the balance sheet of a not-for-profit foundation. The figure doesn't appear to have changed from one year to the next and I wonder whether it might be a foundation's equivalent of share capital. But I've never encountered this before and can't find the term in any of my financial dictionaries. Grateful for any advice.

Like it or not, that is the official term used in the Norwegian Foundations Act etc.
The term "foundation capital" is equally difficult, having been misused as a financial term for for-profit businesses
"Endowment fund" is perhaps a better way to describe capital used to start a foundation, but in the Norwegian context - probably a bank - founding capital works best?

neutral  Leif Henriksen: Close, but maybe no cigar, Jeff? I would say that this is the "egenkapital for en stiftelse", not the founding capital for an enterprise like "aksjeselskap". Maybe "foundation capital" would be more appropriate?
