Icelandic term or phrase: mæliskeið
Sæl,

A pharmaceutical information sheet written in Icelandic uses the term "mæliskeið" when talking about dosages.

E.g. it says to take one "mæliskeið" of the preparation per day if you have a certain condition.

As far as I can tell, "mæliskeið" means "measuring spoon" -- i.e., a spoon designed to measure particular volumes.

A measuring spoon could be 100 ml in volume, it could be 1000 ml, etc.

If that's the case, then "mæliskeið" seems like too unspecific a term for giving instructions on dosages.

Is "mæliskeið" typically used (in practice) to mean "tablespoon" or similar?

Or, should we conclude that the aforesaid product information sheet is incomplete (or I've missed something): i.e. that there should be instructions somewhere on how big a "mæliskeið" is in this context?

measuring spoon
Explanation:
As far as I know mæliskeið is a non-specific measuring spoon. In the link you can see a photo of a number of measuring spoons with different sizes. A teaspoon is usually called teskeið and a tablespoon, matarskeið. Does the product maybe come with a measuring spoon of its own? As far as I know there is no standard measuring spoon in the pharmaceutical or medical field.
