Thank you, evidently the word subject should not be used in a modern context, nor should nënshtetësi (and this was in an official document in January 2020). In Swedish, we used to have "undersåte", where "under" corresponds to "sub".

Nënshtetësi përdoret vetëm në kuadër të shteteve të përbëra (federatave).

Supozojmë, në kohën e Perandorisë Osmane, ku kishin shumë shtete të përziera në një formacion të vetëm (me shkallë të ndryshme autonomie), kishe jo ‘shtetas i Perandorisë’, por ‘nënshtetas i Perandorisë’. Ose, ‘nënshtetas i Federatës Ruse’ dhe jo ‘shtetas i Federatës Ruse’. Mbase nënshtetas i Jugosllavisë në vend të shtetas i Jugosllavisë, e kështu me radhë.

Mirëpo, sot, në ligjërimin politik, shtetas dhe nënshtetas kanë fituar ekuivalencë. Prandaj, bie dakord me “citizenship”.

agree  Ledja: E vërtetë, fjala nënshtetësi duhet të kishte "dalë mode" pasi përkon edhe me statusin si "subject of a monarch ", por në fakt ka përvetësuar të njëjtin kuptim/përdorim si "shtetas"
