فقد كان يتواصل معي, في مناسباتنا الدينية

"socialize with" may be correct, and I would've agreed with it, but socializing involves phyiscal presence, and it isn't clear from the context that the situation was so.

I went with "get in touch with" as the moslem then mentions sending him a Christmas card in the next line, so not necessarily socialising which involves physical contact. Thanks for the confirmation!
