From the context, I think they just mean account balances. "Carrying forward of accounts" wouldn't seem to make much sense in this context.

Asker: Thanks to both of you. Points go to Ross for being quickest on the mark!! Guessed it was balance but (after too many hours at this computer) couldn't be sure.

Asker: Sorry Ross for making the entries in the Gloss for two of the answers you helped with: it was a mistake on my part as I'd intended to leave that to the answerer but for some reason I slipped up. It seems fair to me that the answerer makes the entry, although there seems to be different ways of going about it depending on the translator. Anyway, thanks again for your much appreciated contributions.
