Catalan term or phrase: viatges tancats
this is for an article on dynamic packaging in the travel industry.

"Closed travel" just doesn't seem right to me, but that's what it says... Am i missing something (probably!).

pre-defined package
Explanation:
A possibility?

Dynamic Packaging is a method that is becoming increasingly used in package holiday bookings that enables consumers to build their own package of flights, accommodation, and a hire car instead of a pre-defined package.

not open ended

Explanation:
As these journeys do not entail open ended tickets....

Is that what is meant?

Poor you. That is so typical of a certain type of Catalan prose - overwritten and overblown. What we have to deal with on a daily basis! ;-)

If they are arguing the advantages of a package as opposed to an individually planned and purchased journey, then what I proposed might still stand. "Open ended" tickets generally cost more, because they give you a right to return, or travel further, on a date that is convenient to you within a given time frame (and provided the carrier has seats available).

They are far less convenient for airlines who cannot know with 100% certainty whether a particular flight will be full on a particular day, since, at the last minute, seats may be requested by someone with an open-ended ticket. (The budget airlines don't have any truck with them at all, not even with return tickets. Every Easy Jet or Ryan Air ticket is a single).

The emphasis here certainly seems to be on the idea that the package is a closed package, not open to options.

After Nikki's option I re-read the text in your note more carefully and see I initially misread the final sentence. So I'd like to re-write my last sentence above: "The emphasis here certainly does not seem to be on the idea that the package is a closed package, but rather open to options"

Given that I'm now inclining towards Nikki's answer. But I'll leave mine here, in case "open-ended ticket" is ever useful to anyone.

Notes to answerer

Asker: Hi Berni, thank you for your sympathy. Sadly, this whole 4000 word document is written in this awful style! But, as you say, it's what we have most days!
