a nation's desire for revenge Explanation: Words such as hatred, hostility and animosity could seemingly all be used, but my gut feeling is that this idiom refers to the instinctive -- and unrepressible -- desire to inflict pain on those who have made one's people suffer. And that is, of course, revenge. |
