Folks, I have a quick question:

For 新马特购物中心, how would you translate it?
1. Xinmate Shopping Mall
2. Xin Ma Te Shopping Mall
3. Xinma Te Shopping Mall

This is the customary way of spelling in Chinese and it serves the purpose of shop recognition through a written language.

If a foreigner knows pinyin, he would pronouce it in pinyin, ie. (ma3 te4) not mate(meit). Even in English there are many foreign names that you cannot take their pronunciation for granted, e.g. Gloucester street.

Newmart

Explanation:
I found various references on the internet if you take the space away and make it all one word. It's possibly an existing American company moving to China
