Bus/Financial - Law: Contract(s) / active or passive 实际扣款人?
Chinese term or phrase: 实际扣款人
大家好。

The context in which I find this word is a financial agreement between the "实际扣款人" and a large bank.

I have translated it as "debitor", but could it in fact mean the opposite, i.e. "debtor" when used in isolation, i.e. "被扣款的人”?

I would appreciate any input.

Thanks.

English translation:actual debtor
Explanation:
Interesting. In the absence of any "被" or grammatical equivalent, 扣款 is in the active voice, so I would have said that 实际扣款人 refered to the person debiting a sum of money...

However, I found this: http://www.doc88.com/p-038717478205.html
... And it does seem you were right to hesitate! In that doc, things are made quite clear.

Asker: Hi Dorian, Thanks a lot for your reply as well as the link! I really appreciate it. Inceed I had that for 实际扣款人 in the beginning and also pondered using the rarer "debitor" for a while. In the end, because of the context of the 实际扣款人 in the specific agreement in question, I opted for "taxpayer", as in this case the person being debited was in fact the party responsible for paying tax through the bank in question. This was really a tricky one though, hehe. Don
