Chinese term or phrase: I need help polishing a sentence.
历史》诞生于罗马帝国的政治背景之下,而随着基督教普世宗教的形成,基于宗教的普遍史
开始出现,代表作为古罗马基督教会史家优西比乌的《编年史》和《教会史》

My translation: "History" was born under the political background of the Roman Empire, and was formed in the wake of the Christian Ecumenical religion on the basis of the initial emergence of the common history of religion as representative of the Roman Christian church historian Eusebius’ "Chronicles" and "Church History".

I feel the rendering here of: as representative of (the Roman Christian church historian Eusebius’ "Chronicles" and "Church History".) is incorrect. I wonder if anyone could advise a more fitting translation, since my attempt doesn't seem to make sense.

Your assistance is appreciated. Thank you.

English translation:the canon literature / representative work of which are
Explanation:
It seems to me that the last phrase is referring to the representative work of the Universal History of religion, rather than the representative work of Eusebius. Perhaps, it could be translated in the following way to convey the connection between Eusebius' work and the era.

" .... was formed in the wake of the Christian Ecumenical religion on the basis of the initial emergence of the Universal History of religion, the representative work of which are the Roman Christian church historian Eusebius’ Chronicles and Church History.

代表作=representative works

Explanation:
You may want to parse the phrase as 代表作 (representative works) instead of 代表作为. I think it means that those works by Eusebius are representative works of early church history.

Asker: Thanks Sharon. I did note that with my dictionary, however, I still cannot fit this new notion into the sentence. I think, somewhere, I have things a bit backward. I shall hope for some more suggestions from our peers and thank you for your correction and help.

Asker: I have changed it to: History was born under the political background of the Roman Empire, and was formed in the wake of the Christian Ecumenical religion on the basis of the initial emergence of the Universal History of religion as the representative works of the Roman Christian church historian Eusebius’ Chronicles and Church History I hope I might be a bit closer, but still welcome additional advice.

agree  MY Lim: The last phrase is an accurate rendition of the text. However the first phrase of the source text is a standalone clause, and hence "was formed in the wake of..." has to be broken apart fr the first clause as a separate clause. (See discussion entry)

一点不同的意见

Explanation:

因此不能翻译成: \"History\" was born under the political background of the Roman Empire, and was formed in the wake of.......这样的句式。

最后关于“代表作为古罗马基督教会史家优西比乌的《编年史》和《教会史》”的翻译,个人觉得可以翻译成 with the representative works being Eusebius's Chronicle and Church History 这样的形式。

个人的一点意见,供参考。

个人以为,整句话的译文的句式大致是这样的:

The Histories<i/> were.......; The Universal History........, with the representative works being.......

哦,抱歉,前面的 were 应该为 was。另外,由于标记使用失误,不该斜体的也变成斜体了。

哦,谢谢 Sharon 的指正和说明。奇怪的是,我这里既无法 show discusssion,也无法 post discussion。

agree  MY Lim: In this context, it's referring to 波里比阿的《历史》. (See discussion). Agree with your understanding of the sentence that the first clause is separate & your way of parsing the text (as Jarv also mentioned in the discussion).
