It confers 'title' to the goods. It is necessary both to take delivery of the goods and for banks to release payment to the shipper (if I remember correctly). If there are variations from what is stipulated on the bill of lading, then there are problems. I think the Bill of Lading needs to be altered? (reissued I haven't heard of, maybe replaced/renewed??? that's a guess). Anyhow there are certain difficulties. a clean bill of lading is desirable. changes may result in amendments to the B/L (a 'dirty' bill of lading) Perhaps that is what this is referring to??? |
