Stelja ili detritus predstavlja prvi rastresiti sloj šumskog zemljišta. Debljina mu se kreće od 10 do 15 centimetara, u zavisnosti od nekih spoljašnjih faktora. Šumska stelja je zapravo šumska prostirka, formirana od opalog lišća sa drveća. Sve opalo lišće, grančice, uginuli organizmi sačinjavaju šumsku stelju. Opalo lišće se tokom godine gomila, a sloj je najdeblji na kraju vegetacionog perioda. Ovaj sloj se dejstvom nekih fizičkih faktora donekle i sabija, ali je uvijek rastresit, lagan i kao takav zdržava i određenu količinu vlage i toplote."

agree  Dubravka Hrastovec: Poljoprivredni rječnik (dr. Josip Ritz) osim 'litter' navodi i 'bed', 'stable litter' i 'bedding'. Postavljačica pitanja je malo nejasno definirala područje pa neka i ove dopune... :-)
