Croatian term or phrase: Zakon o osobnom radu u zanatstvu i o zanatskim zadrugama
Zakon je objavljen u NN 27/76 dakle u vrijeme bivše države. Any elegant, not too descriptive suggestion? I'm running out of patience.

Act on self-employment in crafts and on crafts cooperatives

Explanation:

Independent Craftsmen and Craftmen's Cooperatives Act

Explanation:
"Crafts" for zanat / zanatstvo is rather outdated, at least in the U.S., although "craftsmen" is indeed used (assuming we're talking about carpenters, plumbers, electricians, etc.). A common alternative is "tradesmen," though that can also mean shop owners or merchants. An even more common catch-all term for workers in these trades is "contractor," but obviously that's much too ambiguous for a stand-alone reference such as this one. On the other hand, it does avoid the linguistic sexism present in crafts/tradesMEN!

FYI, just noticed: Craftsmen's, not Craftmen's!

agree  bonafide1313: Thank you for sharing these lines, I feel they will be of practical use to me; unfortunately zanatstvo has disappeared from "official" Croatian in favor of obrtništvo, the latter increasingly denoting rather the legal form than the "content"

agree  Lingua 5B: Sounds good to me. However, was the term " crafts" more popular back in 1976 when the act was created ?

-> I don't think so. Then and now, "crafts" in the US typically refers to hobbies such as knitting, pottery, calligraphy, etc. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arts_and_crafts

agree  LEXpert: Works for me. Zanatstvo really encompassed equally both building trades, and artisan trades like cobberly, tailoring, leatherworking, etc.

-> Yeah, I don't think we have a blanket term for that, at least in modern usage
