MDs and DDSs need a "license/licence" in order to practice medicine/dentistry. Dental hygienists and other supporting staff, however, may obtain an "authorization for unsupervised practice" (word choice being important, too, i.e. 'unsupervised' rather than 'independent', and 'practice' rather than 'work').

Plus, you are quoting a description for a degree of a Doctor of dental surgery, you are specialized in dental surgery, but you can get specialized in Orthodontics and Dentofacial orthopedics, Pediatric Dentistry,Endodontics, Prosthodontics, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Periodontics. They can all ask for that license to work independently. You answer is misleading .

Lirka, you are right... that's what I said earlier. That does not mean that the License/Authorization for that kind of independent work is a license for Surgery necessarily.

Now, Croatian chamber of pharmacists (further in the text: Chamber), sets the rights and obligations of the members of Chamber, source of financing, general rules, specialized sectors, procedures for issue, renewal and revocation of licenses for independent work... this is a quote from their website. My translation is not far from this one.

Don't be mislead by the name of the degree. Every dental student receives a DDS degree. It does NOT mean he/she specialized in surgery. It's a regular dental school degree.

Please note that a medical doctor of doctor of dental surgery ( =zobozdravnik) it not allowed to practice independently after completing med school. One needs a license for it, so this covers your descriptive question nicely

U nazivu samog dokumenta (Odobrenje za samostalni rad) se ne spominje titula osobe kojoj se taj dokument dodeljuje te titula uopšte nije ni bitna kod ovog pitanja; dokument (Odobrenje za samostalni rad) ima potpuno isti naziv bez obzira da li je osoba završila medicinu, dentalnu medicinu, farmaciju.
Kada je u pitanju doktor stomatologije/dentalne medicine (što je titula koja se stiče u Hrvatskoj), usvojen je (logično) prevod Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD), mada postoje i drugačije titule u drugim zemljama:
