agree  Valerie Mason: This is the translation I'd go for (although would possibly say 'appearances are sometimes deceptive')

  -> Where I am we say deceiving. Maybe it's because 'deceptive' sounds more as a potential, whereas 'deceiving' sounds more like actual action. :-)
