Outside of Denmark, there's rarely a distinction between a length of pastry (quite rare) or an individual slice.

Notes to answerer
Asker: Thank you for the suggestions. However, Danish pastry is generic, and the term sougt is really the 'stang', which is crucial. Christine's suggestion of 'strip' seems the most appropriate as it can become 'slices'.

agree  Christine Andersen: This Australian site calls it a length: http://www.theage.com.au/articles/2003/07/15/1058034989666.h... My grandmother baked ´slices´ or strips, not Danish, but also dough and filling, cut into pieces after baking. I would simply call it Danish pastry.

agree  Graham Timmins: agree, please keep the capital 'D'!

agree  Jande: Danish is correct. Can be distinguished by filling e.g. custard danish, apricot and custard danish. When I was younger we called spandeauer "danish pastry envelopes" Sara Lee has wienerstang see http://www.saraleebakery.com.au/tmpl.jsp?page=prodlist

disagree  Graham Timmins: A Danish fast food outlet is not necessarily the best place to look for the correct ENGLISH word!
