Danish to English translations [PRO]
Law/Patents - Law (general) / Penal law
Danish term or phrase: Udgang/Frigang
List of penal law terms, no specific context.

Apparently udgang is a one-off exit from prison for a specific period and purpose (home visit, etc.). Frigang is licence to do so on a daily basis.

Someone with more specific knowledge in English/US penal law? I can translate the terms descriptively myself;-)

English translation:temporary (prison) furlough vs. permanent (prison) furlough
Explanation:
1. To the best of my knowledge permament furloughs do not exist in the USA, so you might consider writing it in brackets or making a footnote.

2. Usually you can get either a day furlough (18 hours or less, ends before midnight) or overnight furlough (up to seven days, but usually three or five) - both would be equivalent to your udgang.

(5-A) ‘Furlough system’ means the system of releasing prisoners in jail on furlough in accordance with the rules for the time being in force.”
