3 | be adored, so much |

be adored, so much Explanation: Literally ... it means so much that you will not get rid of her and that she will be known by animals and by people! However the meaning of this sentance is somewhat lost. Another possibility is: ... it means so much that you will not reject her and that she will be adored by both animals and people! -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 3 hrs (2007-09-28 03:58:10 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- kjendes = be known / be adored / be admired etc saameget = so much -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 20 hrs (2007-09-28 20:32:14 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Third attempt: and the greatest honour any duck can recieve, it means then that noone will get rid of her and that she will be recognized by both animals and people! The translation provided by the Hans Christian Andersen Foundation: You must bow your heads prettily to that old duck yonder; she is the highest born of them all, and has Spanish blood, therefore, she is well off. Don't you see she has a red flag tied to her leg, which is something very grand, and a great honor for a duck; it shows that every one is anxious not to lose her, as she can be recognized both by man and beast. http://www.andersenabc.org/index.dsp?area=27 http://www.andersenabc.org/index.dsp?area=37 |
