(more) artistic souls Explanation: Just to be different... artistic souls or perhaps: those with creative ambitions the cultural élite -- to balance and contrast with the military forces and scientist(s). It depends on your register, and how you translate the rest of the sentence. My assumptions here are not the only possibilities of course. Aesthete is perfectly correct, and it is hard to find a single word or short expression that covers ´skønånd´ without sounding esoteric or dated. (I might even feel the term was slightly dated in Danish too, and then ´aesthete´ really fits well.) |

bel-esprit Explanation: Just another suggestion, albeit one going back to the original French expression. A peek here: http://www.brita.net/yesterdays_snow_is_all_gone.html (in the paragraph Icy reality) - will show its actual use. I cannot help but wonder, if Mr. Bentley might be a relative of our own Frøken Smilla! ;) ~Susanne Reference: http://ordnet.dk/ods/ordbog?query=Belesprit Reference: http://www.thefreedictionary.com/bel+esprit |
