nail deflector or shield Explanation: It is common in stud construction, where pipes, conduits, or wireways are set into the stud space, which is usually done as construction proceeds, to nail heavy gauge strips of metal sheathing on top of the stud in way of the pipe, etc. This is because, once the sheetrock (wallboard) is in place, it is easy to forget just where the pipes, etc. are located. The metal strips prevent an incorrectly placed nail from penetrating through the stud and into the pipe or conduit. |
