Danish term or phrase: rødbederne på leverpostejen
Når børn rammes af kræft, påvirker det hele familien enormt, og enhver forælder vil gøre hvad som helst for sit syge barn. Der er heldigvis ingen børn herhjemme, der får en dårlig behandling. Men ***rødbederne på leverpostejen*** skal komme udefra. Derfor er forkælelse af børnene også en del af vores arbejde.

Denne udtryk kender jeg ikke. Tak på forhand!

Many thanks to all of you. I could see it was not to be translated literally but did not know the expression and couldn't find it on any of my dictionaries either.

If you decide to take this as a metaphore, then this delicacy could be translated to "something special"

agree  ojinaga: or liver paste
3 mins
  -> Thank you. Does it really also come in a tube?

agree  Rebecca Barath: I think I must have some!!!!

  -> Thanks Rebecca. Fortunately on my last trip to Vancouver BC, I bought some. I just need to get the beets now.

agree  christep: It's a metaphor, of course. Something like icing on the cake. The point being presumably that 'extras' or treats have to come from outside, from persons such as the writer of the document, if I understand the context correctly.
1 hr
  -> perhaps, but thank you

neutral  Jande: Isn't it "beetroots on the liver paste" ? Unfortunately I've never heard that saying in English. I think christep should submit the answer "icing on the cake"

  -> beta vulgaris is in the UK beetroot. They are sold in the US as red beets or just beets. You are right about Christep. Maybe you can submit that answer
