agree  christep: It's a metaphor, of course. Something like icing on the cake. The point being presumably that 'extras' or treats have to come from outside, from persons such as the writer of the document, if I understand the context correctly.

  -> beta vulgaris is in the UK beetroot. They are sold in the US as red beets or just beets. You are right about Christep. Maybe you can submit that answer
