  -> I'd never heard of rijkslandbouwleraren either. There are more historical refs than current ones: http://ifthenisnow.eu/en/node/680. It's a make-do. At least I found a scant few refs.

I read 'rijks' as these teachers being employed by the Government, working in the agronomy labs and institutions mentioned and (also?) active in the countryside.
