This is what my client prefers. They prefer to use workflow instead of process in their manual. So that is what I'll use.

'Kinderwerkstroom' might be a made-up word, but the author says 'Onderliggende Werkstromen, ook wel Kinderwerkstroom genoemd'.

The Microsoft Language Portal translates 'onderliggende werkstroom' as 'child workflow': (https://www.microsoft.com/Language/en-US/Search.aspx?sString... )

If they meant 'child process', why didn't they simply use 'onderliggend proces', or 'subproces'? They didn't though, they used the word 'werkstroom', twice. The Microsoft Language Portal translates 'onderliggend proces' as 'child process' / 'subproces' (https://www.microsoft.com/Language/en-US/Search.aspx?sString... )

This word cannot be found on Google - either for NL or BE. It's an invention of the author, or, more likely, a back-translation from child process to NL.

@Steven, that is a bit difficult since the word is repeatedly used in about 10 chapters... I'd rather hear from my client which one he prefers. :-)

In other words, it would depend on what the original writer is talking about. Personally, and looking at the client-provided definition of "werkstroom", I would just pick "child process" and add the original term between square brackets (or add a "translator note" to the phrase).

I can understand 'workflow/werkstroom' an sich, but can't see how child/kinder' or 'parent/ouder' could really combine with 'workflow/werkstroom'.
MS does do things differently from the Unix world, where the spawning of child processes comes from.

In the computer world one speaks of processes, not workflow.
Workflow would be used in the construction world and such.
There should be no difference between Eng-US and Eng-GB.

Ik heb uit nieuwsgierigheid eens "child workflow" ingetikt in Google en vind heel wat "hits" - misschien is het dat?
