First of all, there is a big difference between 'the pendulum is swinging the other way' (neutral) and 'the pendulum is swinging too far' (value judgment).
But the interesting part is that 'doorslaan' in 'de slinger slaat door', at least in this case and if this interpretation/meaning is correct, and I think it could be, has a different meaning from 'doorslaan' in 'de balans slaat door' (tipping).
'doorslaan' would mean 'doorschieten' = go over the top, carry too far, go overboard
I think it's funny. :-)
