I had not seen Phil's comment on the bear but I see he interprets it in the same way I did, this could mean we are on the right track as far as this sleeping bear :-) is concerned

I think Phil is completely right where 'gunfactor' is concerned

the clients are very satisfied with the service they provide

so you would expect the clients would get back to them with jobs or buy products from them, whatever their business is: grant them business

however this is not what's happening and then he goes on to explain why this is:
their marketing qualities are not as they should be
so you would expect they sell some sort of product

their service with respect to their products is excellent
but they don't quite know how to market them

'slapende beer' could mean they have potentialities (beer) but these remain dormant (slapend)
they could do better, wake up! show us what you are made of!

but it is an expression that I am not familiar with

The sleeping bear means they have a lot of potential but they're not fulfilling it. I'm sure there's an English equivalent, but I can't think of it.

...but the question is what it is they are "gun"-ing. But "the amount of business" is plausible. I guess I won't really know until someone in the NL-NL forum addresses my "slapende beer" query.

Had the same idea and the sleeping bear refers to the fact that they are slow to react to the wishes of the customers and don't put forward their own ideas and suggestions to satisfy the customers requirements

It comes from gunnen, meaning to grant, as in "een contract gunnen". I wonder if it means "the amount of business they give us."
