Dutch to English translations [PRO]
Law/Patents - Law (general) / beschikking van de Ondernemingskamer
Dutch term or phrase: zienswijzezitting
ik zoek de Engelse vertaling van het woord 'zienswijzezitting'
bron: een beschikking van de Ondernemingskamer (rechtbank Amsterdam)
doeltaal: US Engels

'X heeft op de zienswijzezitting aangegeven dat er momenteel geen andere oplossingen voorhanden zijn dan, kortweg, de [...] optie.'

Ik heb dit eerst maar vertaald met 'opinion hearing' maar dat is een gok.

(AmE + BrE + OzE) case management hearing; (coll.) 'brainstorming session'

Explanation:
Unless treading on anyone's Canadian or South African toes, I believe the case management hearing or conference idea originated in the US and had def. been lifted by Lord Woolf and his team of researchers in the E&W civil justice reforms of 1998.

Example sentence(s):
  • US > Case management in legal terms refers to the schedule of proceedings involved in a matter. There are various stages in litigation, such as the filing of a complaint, answers, the discovery process (*interrogatories*, subpoenae, depostions, etc.)

Notes to answerer
Asker: I am not fully convinced yet that this is the proper translation. In my source text the zienswijzezitting was intended to allow the experts hired in the case to present their views and findings. If I understand the meaning of case management hearing correctly, this is intended for the judge to decide whether the proceedings should be started at all.

neutral  John Holloway: Not sure of this but agree that it is a method of getting input (e.g. on draft legislation that lies open for inspection or in a session meant for that purpose). Like an interrogatory - but that is a bit different and not the term.
