Asker: Thanks Textertise! yes, I was initially going to use "killing offence", but also found it somewhat archic, and akward. I was then wondering about using homicide, but was put off by the Oxforddictionaries.com definitions, which state "chiefly North American" however, after reading your suggestion, I googled it again, and found things like this from the UK Office for National Statistics: "Things you need to know The term “homicide” covers the offences of murder, manslaughter and infanticide1. Murder and manslaughter are common law offences that have never been defined by statute, although they have been modified by statute. […] There were 571 homicides (murder, manslaughter and infanticide) in the year ending March 2016 in England and Wales. This represents an increase of 57 offences (11%) from the 514 recorded in the previous year." (https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/crimeandjustice/compendium/focusonviolentcrimeandsexualoffences/yearendingmarch2016/homicide) I am therefore going to use "homicide" (without adding "offence").
