The translator of the Iscar site might have been having a similar translation dilemma as we have been having here ;-) But sorry, as much as I would like to, I just don't have the time to continue this discussion right now.

There seems to be similarity in their action.
At the same time they are not interchangeable.

I was struck by the fact that 'groove-turn' is translated as 'draai-steek', and the other way round perhaps' in this link

And that's really all I know about this and tend to go by (as a blind man) :-)

Yes, the tools are different but IMHO there is similarity in their machining action. For exampe, you could use the grooving tool for parting (as in the top right), be it with more workpiece loss and tool wear. Same goes for the face-grooving tool if that is inserted in a narrower tool support. (The greater width and mass of the one used here probably serves to mitigate vibration and thus produce a smoother face.)

You see 3 different tools.
The tool in lower left corner is for goove turn.

Yes, the dilemma of awarding points, as Jack mentioned; I don't like this part when more than one person has taken the time to help!

All things considered, I think the more generic term may be a slightly preferable translation, as it seems that the tools pictured may not all be for exactly the same purpose.

'groove-turn tools' is the best I can come up with.

The 'groove-turn tool' looks like Ruth's image.

I need to meet a few deadlines.
If you want to remove your agree under turning & threading, no problem.
All I can offer is 'groove turn'.

Sorry, I overlooked your later suggestion. But anyway, in my humble opinion your first suggestion (turning & threading tools) would be more appropriate. I think groove-turning is a bit too specific and exclusive. The link you just referred to (in the lower left corner of your answer) also shows the same kind of tool being used for parting the workpiece. That is not the same as grooving. In short, I would seek a more general solution like your original answer or mine. I guess that would be putting Ruth in a bit of spot as to awarding points, but I'm not that interested in points as long as both options are included in the KudoZ glossary. To be perfectly clear, I think both are correct. Although mine may be a just a little more correct because your original suggestion doesn't include grooving. Just joking, Barend ;-)

The first two photo's in http://www.machineryhouse.co.nz/Lathe-Cutting-Tools look similar to yours. These refer specifically to turning and boring. The third and fourth refer to threading. The whole series is -- apparently generically -- referred to as 'lathe cutting tools'. I think I would be go for this, although Barend's suggestion of 'turning and threading tools' would also be correct, in my opinion.

I do have a photo. Having now searched Google images for "draaibeitels", I would say that the "draaisteekbeitels" in the auction photo look similar. Would there be much difference between a "draaibeitel" and a "draaisteekbeitel"?

Barend could be right, but I'm not sure. 'Lathe slotting tool' might be an option, too. Any chance of checking with your client? An illustration or photograph perhaps?
