Dutch term or phrase: nijpende last
A patient experienced chest pain that is described as "een retrosternaal nijpende last ondervonden'. Does this relate to how the pain felt or the severity of the pain? I initially thought it might mean 'acute' but wonder if it means something else. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

squeezing retrosternal discomfort/pain
Explanation:
You confirmed this is Flemish

Since the most characteristic symptom of AP is a 'beklemmend gevoel' and 'nijpende last' sounds like it, and since 'nijpende last' sounds like Flemish and as I never heard of 'nijpende last' in Dutch...

'retrosternaal nijpende last' may refer to 'een onaangenaam gevoel (last) van beklemming (nijpend) retrosternaal/achter het sternum'

on second thoughts I think 'last' more likely refers to 'discomfort/pain' than 'a sensation of heaviness'

so I would suggest

sqeezing retrosternal discomfort /pain
a sensation of tightness beneath the sternum
and the like

the patient experienced squeezing retrosternal discomfort / pijn
the patient experienced a sensation of tightness beneath the sternum

pinching (chest) pain

Explanation:
It is common to use "pinching" for indeed certain sensations of chest pain.

Harvard health uses it too:
Pain, numbness, pinching, prickling, or other uncomfortable sensations in one or both arms, the back, neck, jaw, or stomach

agree  writeaway: yes squeezing not pinching. In layman's language. It's fairly clear from the context, Belgian or not. the rest is too medical for me.
