Dutch to English translations [PRO]
Medical - Medical: Health Care / hypertension
Dutch term or phrase: conformantihypertensiva
In a medical report the doctor writes:
Echocardiogram: conformantihypertensiva met als gevolg een syncope en hyperkaliëmie. The translator translates it as:
Echocardiogram: fitting with hypertensive agents resulting in syncope and hyperkalaemia.

As the proofreader, I must say I don't understand the term used above and don't understand the sense in which the translator is using the word "fitting".

How do you suggest I respond as proofreader/revisor?

Thanks,
David

confirm ... antihypertensive drug treatment
Explanation:
A way to go about it

Echocardiogram: conform antihypertensiva met als gevolg een syncope en hyperkaliëmie.

Echocardiographic findings confirm hyperkalemia and syncope on the basis of antihypertensive drug treatment.

The author claims that the echocardiographic findings confirm their hypothesis/assumed cause of the hyperkalemia and syncope.

This most likele means that they excluded other causes.

My take on it.

Or (see comments):

Echocardiographic findings are consistent with hyperkalemia and syncope on the basis of antihypertensive drug treatment.

On second thoughts, I think I prefer 'be consistent with' to 'confirm' as well, even if it does not change the message in any essential way.

agree  Tina Vonhof (X): The translator assumed it was a typo but it isn't.// I agree with Anne: 'are consistent with' is better.

-> Possibly. It is a typo in that a space is missing. The context / complete sentence reveals the correct relationships.

agree  Anne Schulz: but would prefer "are consistent with" over "confirm"

-> Thank you, Anne. Yes, perhaps 'confirm' is a bit too strong. Is this what you mean?

agree  Maja Keizers (X): Consistent with (the use of) antihypertensives, resulting in ... Consistent with would be the standard phrase, I believe..

-> The assumption was "syncope and hyperkalemia caused by/on the basis of/as a result of antihypertensive drug treatment". Other causes were excluded by cardiac ultrasound. Ultrasound results confirmed/were consistent with this assumption. No?
