It is a component of the lens of an image intensifier. In the diagram it is connected in a stack of other cylindrically-shaped components. Unfortunately this is the only context I have, since it appears in a German parts list, with this and another component left in Dutch.

agree  Jack den Haan: Your interpretation could well be right Lucinda, although I find it hard to say without seeing Kevin's diagram. If it is an electrical supply device, I think I'd use the term 'supply device' or 'supply unit', though...
