Dutch term or phrase: poets en plakwerk
I came across the expression in the follwing sentence:'De basis van de songs zijn live (en zonder publiek) opgenomen op een sneeuwige namiddag, dus slechts beperkt poets en plakwerk.' I have it down as
'going through the motions', but does anyone have a better translation? An explanation of the origin of 'poets en plakwerk' would also be very much appreciated.

Explanation:
poetsen and plakken don´t really belong together but both are verbs befiiting diy repairs... not proper recording studio terms.
