What about, instead of 'expressing emotions' in my suggestion, 'releasing (or relieving) emotions'? Just a bit more emphasis on the cathartic effect :)

On that note, I had a look at 'Cathartic release' as well, which would suit but might be too strongly-worded and is generally linked to Freud & psycho-analysis, which I'm not sure is appropriate here:

"A catharsis is an emotional release. According to psychoanalytic theory, this emotional release is linked to a need to release unconscious conflicts. For example, experiencing stress over a work-related situation may cause feelings of frustration and tension. Rather than vent these feelings inappropriately, the individual may instead release these feelings in another way, such as through physical activity or another stress relieving activity."

Despite the negative connotation that I referred to in my proposed answer, "venting sessions" might be the best option if you don't want to use "supportive conversations" or any of the other options provided.
Providing one-on-one venting sessions where the frustrated person can talk about fears and losses without judgment can also be soothing.

Beschrijvende diagnose:
Cliënt betreft een 43-jarige man veroordeeld voor doodslag op zijn vrouw (2002). Cliënt verbleef hij in verband met detentieongeschiktheid en lichte toerekeningsvatbaarheid (depressie) op de (...) alwaar een waanstoornis is gediagnosticeerd. Cliënt kan zich in deze diagnose niet in vinden. Reeds een groot deel van zijn leven ervaart cliënt depressieve klachten en hij is heeft een suïcidepoging ondernomen middels een overdosis antidepressiva. Tevens lijkt er sprake van acculturatieproblematiek en onverwerkte rouwgevoelens met betrekking tot het delict. Momenteel is er sprake van een duidelijke adynamie en negatief symptomatisch beeld.

Behandelbeleid:
Psychologische behandeling gericht op stabilisatie en activatie van cliënt ondersteund door medicamenteuze behandeling, verkrijgen dagbesteding en ventilerende/inzichtgevende gesprekken verleden, huidige omstandigheden en toekomst. Doel is om cliënt te begeleiden naar een stabiele leefsituatie en voorkomen van recidive.

Talking therapy sounds more like gesprekstherapie. I think a descriptive approach would work better. I still hope for a one-on-one translation though.

Is an umbrella term for a certain approach in psychological treatment. Too generic for this case, in which we are looking at one specific aspect of treatment and not the therapy/treatment as a whole.

Plus how does this fit in? "Psychological treatment [...] supported by talking therapies[...]" doesn't sound right.

Merk op dat er staat "verkrijgen dagbesteding en ventilerende/inzichtgevende gesprekken verleden, huidige omstandigheden en toekomst." En er staat dus gesprekken en niet therapie...

I am wondering though why the author would use the particular words 'ventilerende gesprekken'. You might be right though that this is too much in an emergency context.

It's all a bit slippery slope. The examples you give above work, but I would keep it out of emergency context, which is a specific application.
