Dutch to English translations [PRO]
Textiles / Clothing / Fashion / Quilt-making
Dutch term or phrase: hartjes en kraaltjes
Example: "zeven oranje hartes en kraaltjes" in a list of requisites for a quilting pattern. Literally "little hearts and little beads", but is there a recognised counterpart in English?

Little hearts and beads
Explanation:
I think you can avoid saying "little" twice, but I don't think there is any better way to translate this. English just doesn't use diminutives like that, and Dutch uses diminutives all the time (I would say excessively).

neutral  writeaway: there are other ways (is there ever only 1 way to translate something??) but this is one of them. The others are just as good.

-> You're right about leaving out the "little," I would probably let it depend on context, i.e. are there other objects that are bigger?
