(page 342) ترميز البيانات (Data coding) يُعرف الترميز بأنه العملية التي يتم فيها تحويل البيانات إلى هيئة رقمية دليل الترميز (codebook) هو عبارة عن وثيقة شاملة تحتوي على وصف كامل لكل متغير موجود في دراسة البحث والبنود والأساليب القياسية الخاصة بكل متغير بالإضافة إلى أن دليل الترميز يحتوي على الهيئة المستخدمة لكل عنصر (رقمي، نصي وهكذا) ومقياس الاستجابة الخاص بكل عنصر بالإضافة إلى كيفية ترميز كل قيمة لتصبح على هيئة رقمية. فعلى سبيل المثال، إذا كان هناك عنصر قياس على مقياس ليكرت (Likert scale) ذو النقاط السبع بمرتكزات تتراوح بين "أرفض بشدة" و"أوافق بشدة"، يمكن عندئذٍ ترميز هذا العنصر ك 1 بالنسبة إلى الرفض الشديد و 4 بالنسبة إلى المحايد و 8 بالنسبة إلى الموافقة الشديدة إلى جانب المرتكزات الوسيطة الموجودة فيما بينهم |
