Like Hassan said, life in the suburbs is not life in the village or countryside.
In the United States, life in the suburbs is usually more desirable than life in a major city, especially if you are raising a family. It is usually safer, the schools are better, and the housing is nicer and more affordable than what you'd find in the city. The focus is generally on family and residential life and often implies at least a middle-class lifestyle (although this is not always the case). It is the lifestyle of those living the so-called "American dream" of having your own home with your own yard, your own car, etc. in a nice neighborhood to raise your kids.
A lot of people work in the city but prefer to live in a suburb for the above reasons. |
