الغاية التقنية من هذا الإجراء هي تحديد نمط html والبرمجة النصية التي يدعمها المتصفح
وبالتالي عدم إرسال استجابات لا يفهمها المتصفح أو لا يستطيع إظهارها
وهي أحيانا أعمق من مجرد اسم المتصفح ورقم الإصدار
فأنا أكتب من Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2.6) Gecko/20100625 Firefox/3.6.6 - Build ID: 20100625231939
ولكن بالنسبة لكثير من المواقع تظهر إضافات يفهمها الموقع ويخاطبها
مثلا firebug1.5.4
firephp 0.4.3
وهذه إضافات برمجية للمتصفح ولكن بعض المواقع تتعامل معها
كما أنه رغم أن فايرفوكس 3.6 يدعم جميع أنواع البرمجة النصية المعروفة إلا أن هذه الخصائص معطلة افتراضيا للأمان لدي وأفعلها لمواقع محددة
لذلك أنا أسميها تصنيفا للعميل أو المتصفح أو العارض
